A french cleats is a piece of molding cut at a 30 to 45 degree angle.
Furthermore, most french cleats systems come in a pair.
One side of the french cleat wall hanger attaches to the wall and the other side attaches to the item.
Ultimately, french cleat wall hanger allows for easy removal and installation of items on a vertical wall.
Even if you haven’t purchased a Surfboard Towel Holder, french cleats can be used to mount wall panels, cabinets, pictures, artwork, or any flat object safely and securely.

How To Install A French Cleat Wall Hanger
Time needed: 10 minutes
The steps to install a french cleat wall hanger
- Choose Location
First, choose a suitable location on a wall to install the french cleat.
Ideally, a stud is the best location is to secure the french cleat to a wall. - Secure French Cleat using 1 Screw
Next, attach the french cleat to the wall stud with one screw and the 45 degree angle should point up.
Make sure you are able to move the french cleat, so don’t fully tighten.
- Check for Level
Then, use a magnetic level and move the french cleat until the horizontal level bubble moves to the center.
- Tighten Screws
Fasten the french cleat to the wall by driving in the remaining screw.
Also, don’t forget to tighten the first screw.
- Attach French Cleat to Item.
Attach the other side of the french cleat pair to the rear of the item with screws.
Also, verify the 45 degree points down.
- Verify and Complete
Verify the item rests on the french cleat securely and can easily be removed.
Finally, give yourself a pat on the back for a job well done.
