Ordering Information

This listing is for a 6 surfboard towel rack made with sinker cypress wood.
If you prefer a different color pattern, checkout these listings:

First, choose the location of your surfboard towel rack.
Your choice determines the type of finish we use to protect the surfboards.

Also, each surfboard easily disassembles from the french cleat bracket.
This allows you to separate them to install in various locations.

Interior Use

Our surfboard storage hooks work well in various interior rooms.
For example, place them in a mudroom to hang bags, as bathroom towel storage, or a man cave coat or hat rack.

For interior use, we use a food-safe, non-toxic, and solvent free hardwax oil finish on the bare wood.
The hardwax oil absorbs into the wood and brings out the natural grain patterns.
Also, it seals and protects the wood.

Exterior Use

These surfboard hooks are perfect for an outdoor shower, outdoor patio, or outdoor bath house.

For exterior use, we finish the bare wood with the same process for interior use.
In addition, we apply 3 coats of marine grade varnish for an extra layer of protection.
An exterior marine grade varnish provides UV protection to reduce:

  • Fading
  • Discoloration

Keep in mind, sinker cypress wood withstands the outdoor elements without the aforementioned wood finishes.

Outdoor Surfboard Towel Rack Dimensions

When grouped together with the french cleat mounting bracket, the measurements are:

  • 6 Surfboards: 10.75" x 19.5" x 2.75" (L x W x Depth)

Please note, depth is measured from rear/underside to the surfboard fin tip.
In other words, this is the distance it sticks out from the wall.

Shipping

Each wood surfboard towel rack is handcrafted for you by us, so please allow 5 to 7 business days for item to ship.

What Is Sinker Cypress Wood

In the 1800s, loggers harvested Cypress trees during the industrial timber harvest in the Southeastern United States.
These trees were anywhere between 250-3500 years old at the time of harvest.
The logs were chained together to make a raft, branded by the logging company, and floated down the river to the nearest sawmill.
However, an estimated 10-20% of all Cypress trees harvested at that time never made it to the mill. Instead, they sank for a variety of reasons.
These logs became known as “Sinker Cypress” or “Sinker Deadhead Logs”.

Today, sinker cypress logs are harvested from these rivers using the best technology of our time (sonar and other locating equipment).
Once discovered, scuba divers swim down, attach cables to the logs, and use a winch or airbags to pull the logs to the surface.
The logs are milled and stacked for a period of time to dry.
As a rule of thumb, the wood takes 1 year per inch of thickness to air dry.

Why Use Sinker Cypress Wood

The 150-year underwater preservation process makes it one of the most beautiful, rot-resistant and insect-resistant woods in the world.
Sinker Cypress contains an oil, cypressene, which preserves the heart wood in the water as organisms eat away at the bark.
Even after harvesting, the cypressene continues to protect the wood from decay and pests.
Over the century and a half the logs sat on the river bottom, the logs absorbed the tannins and minerals from their resting places.
In addition, they developed a naturally tight grain structure that gives the wood strength and unique color variations.

Sinker Cypress colors range from warm honey, to cinnamon to light and dark chocolate tones, depending on where it came to rest in the river bottom. If the log landed on a sandy bottom with clear water, lighter tones develop. A muddy river bottom, such as the Mississippi or Atchafalaya River, produces a darker, olive green tone. The longevity, strength, and beauty of sinker cypress lend itself to a variety of interior and exterior applications such as bar tops, furniture, flooring, siding and more.
